Do I need to audition this year if I've been a member for the past year?

Yes, we audition for our groups every year.

Where can I register for auditions?

Please fill out the form here! We'll hold onto your details for the auditions process and once that's over we'll delete all the data we no longer need. Our Privacy Policy is here.

How should I prepare for auditions?

Our auditions give you a taster of what happens in all of our regular sessions, and to give us an idea of how well you work together. Don’t worry if you’ve never done something like this before. You’ll be well looked after and it’s nothing like the auditions you see on the TV. Here are our top tips:

  • Wear comfortable clothes

  • Bring a bottle of water

  • Ask questions

  • Get stuck in

  • Have fun!

What happens in the audition?

We will run a variety of theatre games and exercises and get to know you all. The sessions are fun, active, and creative.

If I have two children and I'm registering them both for auditions how does that work?

It's simple! Just fill out the registration form once for each child.

What happens if I can’t make the audition?

If you can’t make the auditions, please get in touch with us. If there are any spaces left available, you may be able to join at a later date.

Can parents/carers stay with their children during the auditions?

We ask that parents do not stay, and we don’t allow any parents into the auditions or youth theatre / drama club sessions. You are more than welcome to stay close by in the theatre foyer or head up to Eat Me Café while you wait. All SJT staff hold enhanced DBS checks and are First Aid trained. You can find our full safeguarding policy here.

What if I need extra support during the auditions?

If you need extra support, we encourage you to attend our relaxed auditions on Monday 9th September. Our relaxed auditions are less crowded and offer a gentler approach.

What happens after the audition if I’m offered a place?

We will be sending everyone a confirmation email with all the information for joining your group, so keep an eye on your inbox. This email will arrive sometime during the week of 9 September. Please remember to check your junk folder. If you haven't heard from us please get in touch.

What happens if I don’t get offered a place?

Although we would love to offer everyone who auditions a spot in our youth theatre, sometimes we have to make tough decisions, but we would encourage you to apply the following year. We also run backstage school activities throughout the holidays which everyone can get involved in.

How much do sessions cost?

The auditions are free and regular sessions are paid for by term. You can pay for three terms at once or pay at the start of each term.

There's a reduced fee available for people experiencing financial difficulty.

Will I get to perform in a play?

Everyone will have an opportunity to perform in our Youth Arts Festival once a year, we will also hold annual auditions for our Youth Theatre show. The Young Company perform in their own play once a year. All productions are staged at the SJT.

Can I join the same group as a friend?

We can only offer places in the same group as a friend if you are in the same age category.
