Meet our Calendar Girls the Musical community cast!
Seven talented young local performers are set to take centre stage this summer as they join the cast of Calendar Girls the Musical!
Among those joining the cast are current SJT Young Company members Robyn Chambers, Jack Pickering, Will Ireland, Keane Liley and Charlie Wright, Youth Theatre member Arabella Carey, and former Young Company member Annie Dunbar.
All aged between 16 and 19, they'll share the roles of Danny, Jenny and Tommo - the teenage children of three of the Calendar Girls - performing in two alternating teams throughout the Scarborough run (27 June - 25 July) before the show tours nationally.
Community Cast Director and former SJT Associate Director Chantell Walker said described the opportunity as 'invaluable'.
“They're all aspiring actors, some planning on heading to drama school, so being part of a professional production is an invaluable experience for them."
“These are brilliant roles and really bring a fun and authentic feel to the show, so it was important that we cast these young actors carefully.
“I’m so looking forward to working with these young actors. They’re all either from Scarborough or very local. It’s important that the SJT is connecting to the town’s young people and supporting them on their journey as aspiring actors.”
Calendar Girls the Musical, written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth, tells the uplifting and emotional story of a group of Yorkshire women who create a fundraising calendar following the death of a friend’s husband.
The new production is directed by SJT Artistic Director Paul Robinson, who's delighted to see local talent featured in the show.
“I'm absolutely thrilled to see local young talent joining the cast of Calendar Girls the Musical!"
“Their energy is the perfect counterpoint to this heartwarming story, bringing a fresh, vibrant and authentic Yorkshire grit that makes the whole production sing. It’s a wonderful blending of generations that truly captures the themes of the show and the spirit of community.”
The production is a co-production between the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich and the Octagon Theatre Bolton, with each venue casting its own local young performers.
Tickets are available from the SJT Box Office on 01723 370 541, by popping in next time you're passing, or online here.
