Dementia-Friendly Films Jan - June 2025

Our monthly dementia-friendly film screenings are fun and social events for people living with dementia and their friends, family and carers.

The screenings have a short talk (and singalong if it’s a musical!) before the screening, a break with refreshments provided and (for musicals) another quick sing before the second part of the film. Tickets are free for companions, and all screenings have captions.

Please note, due to the limitations of our listed building we only have a limited number of spaces for wheelchair users in The McCarthy auditorium. Please ring Box Office on 01723 370 541 in advance to check on availability.

All screenings are on a Friday at 1pm.

  • 21 February  -  Mary Poppins (1964, PG)

'Practically Perfect In Every Way' Mary Poppins flies out of the windy London skies and into the home of two mischievous children, helping them to reconnect with their parents.

Ben Rumson finds Pardner brutally injured while he discovers gold dust in a grave area in California. They both set up a camp along with other members, but fall in love with the same woman.

  • 18 April  - Grease (1978, PG)

A wholesome exchange student (Olivia Newton-John) and a leather-clad Danny (John Travolta) have a summer romance, but will it cross clique lines?

  • 16 May - Guys and Dolls (1955, U)

    70th anniversary screening!

While the worldly Sky (Marlon Brando) works his charms on a wary Sarah, Nathan (Frank Sinatra) is doing his best to stay outside the matrimonial clutches of his long-suffering fiancée, Miss Adelaide.

  • 20 June - Kiss Me, Kate (1953, U)

Egotistical leading man, director, and producer Fred Graham is reunited with his ex-wife, Lilli Vanessi, when the two are forced to play opposite one another in a new production of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew.

We've also got our dementia-friendly movement class on Thursday mornings, all about chat, cake, and gentle exercises with our specialised practitioner. The emphasis of these sessions is fun, socialising, and expressing yourself creatively in a supportive environment.
