Dementia Friendly Films for 2026!
Dementia-friendly films are fun, social events for people living with dementia and their friends, family and carers.
Screenings include a short introduction by Tim Tubbs, a sing along before the screening (if it's a musical!), a tea and coffee break (refreshments provided free of charge), and another quick sing before the second part of the film.
Please note, due to the limitations of our listed building we only have a limited number of spaces for wheelchair users in The McCarthy auditorium. Please ring Box Office on 01723 370 541 in advance to check on availability.
Tickets are £6, and additional tickets for companions are free.
West Side Story (1961, PG) - 30 January
Love at first sight strikes when young Tony spots Maria at a high school dance in 1957 New York City.
Their burgeoning romance helps to fuel the fire between the warring Jets and Sharks, two rival gangs vying for control of the streets.
Mary Poppins (1964, PG) - 27 February
When Jane and Michael - the children of the wealthy and uptight Banks family, are faced with the prospect of a new nanny - they're pleasantly surprised by the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins.
Embarking on a series of fantastical adventures with Mary and her Cockney performer friend, Bert, the siblings try to pass on some of their nanny's sunny attitude to their preoccupied parents.
Godspell (1973, U) - 20 March
At the behest of John the Baptist, young men and women forsake their jobs and take up the mantle of Jesus Christ in a musical retelling of the Gospel of Matthew set in modern-day New York City.
Using song and dance, the apostles traverse the city, spreading Christ's message of love and tolerance as the time moves ever closer to his betrayal at the hands of Judas.
Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines (1965, U) - 17 April
In 1910, newspaper mogul Lord Rawnsley decides to offer a large cash sum to the first pilot to successfully fly over the English Channel.
Aviation experts from near and far enter the race, including the underhanded Sir Percy Ware-Armitage, wild American flyer Orvil Newton and British ace Richard Mays. Orvil and Richard come out as the front-runners, but both men are distracted by Rawnsley's lovely daughter, Patricia.
A Star is Born (1954, U) - 22 May
The story of fading matinee idol Norman Maine (James Mason), who helps a young, aspiring singer named Esther Blodgett (Judy Garland) find fame while his own career declines due to alcoholism.
After meeting and falling in love, the two marry, but as her star rises, his continues to fall, leading to increasing tension and self-destructive behaviour.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966, PG) -12 June
This screen adaptation of the stage musical of the same name finds the Roman slave Pseudolus (Zero Mostel) scheming his way to freedom by playing matchmaker for his master's son, Hero, who is smitten with the blonde and beautiful Philia.
However, things don't go at all according to plan. The complications that ensue involve blackmail, funny disguises and long-lost children, while Pseudolus desperately tries to keep up with his end of the bargain.
