Chatting with the Aladdin cast!
We asked three questions: tell us about your role, what will you be doing on Christmas Day, and - well, it is Aladdin! - if you had three wishes, what would you wish for*?
* And no, they can't wish for more wishes!
Matthew Koon
I play Aladdin. A big-hearted dreamer who’s still finding his own magic – literally! In this version, he’s surrounded by magicians and is on a mission to uncover what happened to his Dad while also finding his own way. With singing, dancing and a few magical mishaps, he’s learning what it means to be himself and create his own kind of magic.
I’ll be spending Christmas Day in Manchester with my family, likely enjoying a hot pot or a traditional Christmas roast dinner. Either way, there’ll be lots of food and quality time together before I head back to Scarborough for our Boxing Day show.
I’d wish for an unlimited supply of Korean fried chicken, an audition for the next James Bond film (which would be a dream come true for my dad!), and a chance to come back to the Stephen Joseph Theatre because it’s such an incredible venue.
Ash Weir
I play Jeannie with a J, the Emperor’s daughter. She’s smart, sarcastic and a bit of a dab hand at magic.
I’m heading back to Sheffield for Christmas! I'll be spending the day with my mum, stepdad and their two naughty (but cute!) dogs, Brodie and Blue.
My wishes would be vegan cheese that tastes like real cheese, the ability to speak any language, and, bit of a cliché, but world peace would be nice, wouldn’t it?
David Ahmad
I play Barcaza – the villain!
I'll mostly be eating on Christmas Day – five meals including, but not limited to, smoked salmon, chocolate, beef, cheese and pudding.
I'd wish to be able to play any musical instrument virtuoso, to be able to fall asleep immediately, and… world peace.
Carl Patrick
Hello! I’m playing the magical Genie of the Lamp who is like a child with his excitement about Christmas and how magical a day it is. He also loves to sing like his idol, Michael Bublé.
On Christmas Day, I'll be eating lots of delicious food with my partner and then going for a nice walk with our dog and maybe some friends.
Three wishes? I'd want to speak and understand every language in the world, stop the cruelty and oppression of all humans and animals in the world, and enjoy an endless supply of chocolate.
Jessica Dennis
I play Aladdin’s mum; a slightly bonkers egg fanatic; and a local legend – though I won’t ruin the surprise on that one... !
After having such a fabulous Christmas up here in 2021, I'll be spending it here in Scarborough. Looking forward to bubbles on the beach and the Boxing Day football match.
I'd wish for world peace. For my friends and family to be happy and healthy. And (this is probably the most important one) a lifetime’s supply of whatever crisps I want, whenever I want them (but special crisps that are magically good for you).
See this magical bunch in Aladdin, running from Fri 29 Nov - Sat 28 Dec. Tickets online here, or by popping in or calling the Box Office on 01723 370 541.
