Beauty and the Beast Inspired Stories
Alice Kynman - Young Talent Director here at the SJT - designed some creative writing workshops to support children’s writing for pleasure and oracy, inspired by their experience of watching live panto.
These workshops have been delivered in primary schools on the North Yorkshire Coast by teachers who've attended performances with their pupils. This is the second year we’ve offered these workshops to schools, and this year the pantomime was a retelling of the Beauty and the Beast.
Delivered in partnership with local author Terenia Edwards and the National Literacy Trust Yorkshire Coast, the workshops invited Year 3 and 4 children to share their enjoyment of the show and tell their own stories from the perspective of their favourite character: some children took pride in using their memory to re-tell their favourite scenes of the show, while others found their creative voice to imagine brand new adventures.
We've chosen some of our favourites from the children at Friarage Community Primary School and Airy Hill Primary School to platform the children’s emerging creative writing talent and share this lovely project with the community - hope you enjoy them as much as we have!
