Moviedrome Screenings July - Dec 2024!

Our monthly Moviedrome screenings bring you the chance to discover - or rediscover! - a choice cut of cinema that's cult, classic or somewhere in-between. The films are hand-picked by our resident film buff George Cromack, who introduces each screening. 

• Fri 26 July - On the Waterfront (1954, PG)

An ex-prizefighter (Marlon Brando) and now-New-Jersey-dockworker pays his way by staying quiet and running errands for corrupt union bosses but when the sister (Eva Marie Saint) of a murdered man demands answers, the pressure to speak out for one and all becomes too great.

• Fri 30 Aug - The Red Shoes (1948, PG)

A young ballerina (Moira Shearer) is torn between life with her idealistic composer boyfriend and the intense career demands placed upon her by a fanatical show impresario (Anton Walbrook).

• Fri 27 Sept - Dr Strangelove (1964, PG)

Stanley Kubrick’s dark comedy satire in which an unhinged general’s decision triggers a chain of events which could lead to nuclear war.

• Fri 1 Nov - Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht  (Nosferatu the Vampyre) (1979, 12A)

Werner Herzog’s much praised remake of the classic 1922 silent film based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. When Dracula (Klaus Kinski) brings terror and plague to the city of Wismar, can a young maiden (Isabelle Adjani) succeed in stopping him...? 

• Fri 29 Nov - Rebel Without a Cause (1955, PG)

Troubled new kind in town Jim Stark (James Dean) gets in with the wrong crowd, clashing with peers (Natalie Wood, Sal Mino, Dennis Hopper), parents and the law as events spiral toward a dramatic conclusion.

• Fri 27 Dec - Labyrinth (1986, U)

Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) has just thirteen hours to rescue her baby brother from Jareth, the Goblin King (David Bowie) in this iconic 80s classic.
