The Crafty Art of Ayckbourn

Alongside Alan Ayckbourn's 2023 play Constant Companions we're hosting a series of fundraising events for the Stephen Joseph Theatre (Registered Charity: 253606).

The Crafty Art of Ayckbourn (15 to 17 September 2023) will include a rehearsed reading of Truth Will Out - Ayckbourn's 2020 play which was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This will be the first time it’s ever been performed – and rumour has it the author is fancying playing one of the parts himself. There will also be a masterclass from Ayckbourn and two of his favourite actors for would-be theatre makers or those just needing a refresher based around his ground-breaking book, The Crafty Art of Playmaking.

Please note both Package A and Package B are now sold out but you can still purchase tickets for the reading of Truth Will Out.

You can purchase tickets to each event individually or get exclusive benefits by purchasing the following packages as part of the fundraiser:

Package A - VIP (£150 per person)

  • Tickets to the full production of Alan Ayckbourn's latest play Constant Companions on Saturday 16 September, tickets to the reading of Truth Will Out on Sunday 17 September and tickets to The Crafty Art of Playmaking with Alan Ayckbourn on Friday 15 September.

  • A post-show gala event in Eat Me Café at the SJT following the reading of Truth Will Out, attended by Alan Ayckbourn and the cast. This includes a buffet dinner and glass of prosecco.

  • A souvenir programme.

Package B - VIP: Behind The Scenes (£550 per person)

Everything from Package A plus:

  • Lunch with Alan Ayckbourn and actors from the Constant Companions company.

  • Exclusive behind the scenes sessions with staff from the SJT.

  • A talk with Alan Ayckbourn's Archivist Simon Murgatroyd.

To purchase either Package A or Package B please contact us directly by calling our Box Office on 01723 370541 or emailing. This will ensure we can book your preferred seats for each event in one easy transaction.
