Arts Awards

The SJT OutReach department has offered the Arts Award to all its participants for a few years and now integrates the Arts Awards into regular sessions. The Arts Awards are an internationally recognised award – similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards – and at the highest levels are accredited by universities and colleges.

There is no pressure for participants to complete extra work but we will collect evidence to help support their portfolios and to encourage our members to think about their own arts experiences.

Starting with the Discover (4 - 7 years) and Explore (8 - 11 years) Awards, we will collect evidence for the following:

·      Arts participation as a performer/artist
·      Arts participation as an audience
·      Understanding of arts organisations and individuals
·      Sharing skills

Needless to say, if your young person takes part in other arts activities (as audience or performer/artist), we would love it if they collect evidence as this will support their Arts Award portfolio.

When a young person reaches the end of their time with an age group, we will collate the evidence and put it forward for moderation and certification. This will incur an additional one off cost of between £5 - £15 (depending on the level of the certificate).

What do young people get out of OutReach?

“Rounders gave me the confidence to take the world head on, and now the world is at my feet, and I could not have done it without them. What every single person comments on about my work ethic, is my dedication and confidence, these are skills that Rounders gave me.”
Frankie Leach

“Go for it. Anyone with a creative ability is doing themselves a disservice by not doing it! I came back to the Youth Theatre because I wasn’t really focused on anything, then I became really involved; in how workshops were run, we’d go to theatre festivals, I’d see lots of plays, the spark was lit there.”
Billy Howle, actor

“You have really allowed me to flourish and show my acting to its full potential.”
Alfie, Youth Theatre Member

"Just wanted to say thank you for all the hard work you and your team have put in to make this year's summer school such a wonderful experience for Tom and all the other students. Tom has loved every minute of it and, as you hoped in your programme notes, has made new friends, gained in confidence and come away with a tremendous sense of achievement. He also has a genuine desire to do it all again next year, and is already excited about moving up into the older group."
